There has been a small addition to the Artist Alley application forms.

Artists who wish to share a table together now have a way to request this! We have added a checkbox to the .pdf application form that says "I would like to be located beside a friend". Simply check it and enter your friend's name in the line below. Your friend should enter your name on his/her form.

As always, both people at the table must have an Artist Alley badge. Only full tables can be shared, and the maximum number of people per table is two. The easiest way to do this is for both people to buy a half table and enter each other's names in your forms.

Con-g: a new anime convention in Guelph, Ontario!

We also have a forum if you'd like to make any comments or suggestions! ^_^

I'm on the team organizing and running this convention, so I've been busy-busy-busy lately!

It will be at the Ramada Convention Centre in Guelph on February 21-22, 2009!

My costumes for Anime North this year are coming along. They are total closet cosplay, but I don't care. These will be the first completed costumes since a Hallowe'en several years back, and I'm having fun.

Nightcrawler (X-Men: Evolution version)
Baggy green pants
Red shirt
Beige overshirt (I got all these in one trip to Value Village, and it cost about $22 ^_^)

To do:
Attach blue cuffs to beige shirt
Tail! I have no firm idea on how I'm going to make this.
Tabi-style socks and 3-fingered gloves. I have not yet found a suitable fabric.

Carmen Sandiego
Done: Red trench coat (eBay)

To do:
Make the hat using an old witch hat from Hallowe'en as a base
Find some black gloves. The only black ones I have are for winter, and definitely too warm and bulky to wear
Fine some red heels

Yay! I've finally made some progress on this costume! ^_^

Not a lot, but any progress is more than I've done in a long time. I have dyed my wig from the bright Emerald Green it was to a deep green (more like the one in my icon). Photos here: http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/73200/

I've also finally decided what armour set to make! I scrapped the idea of making the legs for now, as I just want to get this costume done. I can always do a new version later on!
As such, I've picked a set with a skirt, which removes the obstacle of making the legs entirely. I'll still make hooves to peek out from under the skirt, though.

I've chosen the Cyclone Raiment (Tier 4 Raid set). I love how it looks! I also liked the Tier 2 and Tier 3, but I don't have the necessary stomach for 2, and 3 was just too much red.

I've drawn up a plan for how I'll make the various parts of the costume, but I'm a bit worried about those shoulders. I've got some great closeups of them (thanks, WoW Model Viewer!), but the shape of the upper piece is complicated.
I plan on making them out of craft foam.

I intended to go out today and get the foam and at least get started, but it's been blizzarding since last night so the roads are too dangerous to go out just to buy craft foam. Ah, well, maybe tomorrow!

Details for how to change your username have now been posted over at cosplay.com!

Please read this post of this thread for details on how to properly submit your name change request.

You must first make sure the name you want is not already taken. They are not opening up inactive names, so the name you want must be unused. Search the Memberlist to make sure: http://www.cosplay.com/memberlist.php

This is for 1 week only!
After that, you're out of luck, sorry.

Just posting this as a PSA of sorts!

Cosplay.com is opening up username changes, for a period of 1 week only. The last time username changes was allowed was in 2005, and since I missed it by like 2 days back then, I'm posting this to spread the word so others who want the chance to change their username won't miss out like I did last time.

The option to have your username changed will only be available for a week, and after that the option won't be available.

Please see this thread for more information. Details will be post Friday evening on what to actually do to get your username changed, so check back then!

What type of Fae are you?

Haha! Close enough, I guess. ^_^

It's August! Time is sliding by at an alarmingly fast rate!
I'm not sure I'll be ready for Dragon*Con this year! None of my costumes are complete yet! o_0
My faun and Draenei hooves are still made of suck and fail, I couldn't decide between a brown faun and a white/cream faux "sheep fleece" white faun, so now I have way too much fur, my digitigrade legs still aren't done (I keep forgetting to take photos and post them to fursuit for some suggestions and maybe some redlining, and my fairy still has no wings or shoes (but I'm getting a piece of white fur shortly to finish off her corset! Yay!)! Gah! *murffle*

But I'm happy because this month I'll be getting both the horns I ordered from beetlecat and the fairy wig I ordered from Katie Bair! Yay! haven't seen final versions of either, but I'm really looking forward to it. They're my big present to myself this year; I don't usually commission things (for monetary reasons) but this year I decided to treat myself to a couple things that I wouldn't do nearly as well myself. ^_^ The wig will be one of her Party Wigs, of course (I don't think she's done Character Wigs in quite some time, right?) so it'll be completely original and I haven't the slightest clue what it'll look like, but I love almost all of the original Party Wigs in her gallery, so I'm so excited that I should be able to see it (fairly) soon! Squee!
I just hope both arrive before I have to leave for D*C - I still have to style the Draenei wig around the horns after I get them, but I'm mostly worried about the Fairy wig, as I'm not sure when Katie will be finished with it, as all I could do was order the wig for "August", plus the fact that it has to cross the border to get to me. Send me happy mail vibes, please!

Also if anyone can spare some happy thoughts for my father, who is having surgery next week to donate half his liver to a friend (he just happened to be a match), it would be much appreciated!

My wig dye arrived today from Katie Bair! *glee*

I should be able to play around with it next week, after I get the dimensions of the base of the horns that I commissioned from beetlecat.
The 4oz bottle of dye says it does 1 shoulder-length wig, and my wig is a bit longer than that, but I figure it'll balance out after I remove all the fibre I need to remove in order to attach the horns to it. ^_^

This will be my first wig dyeing and wig styling attempt, so hopefully it'll turn out ok.

One of my costumes this year is going to be [one of] my World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade characters; a Draenei Shaman.

I think I've figured out a good way to do the legs, but that's part of the problem. Because I think I can do the legs nicely, I don't want to hide them under a big skirt/robe, so I can't figure out what armour set I should make to wear.

Trouble is, most of the high-level (aka Recognizable) Shaman armour sets involve either a robe or a big skirt. Except the top PVP sets, which are honestly likely to be out of my skill range. I'd rather do a good job on some easier armour, than end up with crummy-looking complicated armour.

I've spent the last couple days puttering around the various WoW sites trying to find some armour sets that don't involve skirts (even the kind that don't give set bonuses or anything, just sets of gear that go together to form an outfit). I've come across these ones so far. The issue with them is, since they are crummy lowbie-sets, they look like crummy lowbie sets.

Any suggestions for a good-looking armour set I can do? It doesn't have to be specifically a Shaman outfit, but I will be using a staff as a prop, because I'll need it to keep my balance and walk properly. I don't care if the outfit isn't "supposed to" go with a staff.
I'd also like at least some skin showing. I won't be wearing a hat/helm because I want to do the horns, and I'll be wearing it to Dragon*Con this year, so I don't want to melt from the heat, so full head-to-toe body coverage isn't as desirable as having bare arms or something. Plus, I want an excuse to paint more than just my face blue. ^_~

Am I stuck with a choice between lame looking lowbie armour or a skirt, or is there an alternative? Would it just be easier to cobble together an outfit that mostly goes together, and just hope people will recognize the style? I mean, a Draenei should be fairly distinctive on its own, but I'd like to be sure to give off a "Warcraft" feel, rather than just looking like some random blue alien chick.
